The Vision
July 2003While on vacation at Hilton Head Island, Bobby Smith looked at all of the people on the beach on a Sunday morning and wondered what kind of church they would feel comfortable going to that would also engage them in the process of knowing Jesus Christ. An incredible vision was planted in Pastor Bobby and his wife Gina, along with their three daughters Bethany, Courtney, and Lyndsey. They took a step of faith, with the blessing of Stevens Creek Community Church (where Bobby had been a youth pastor for 12 years), trusting God's leading to begin a church that would be a safe place for people to hear the dangerous message of Christ and build authentic relationships in the process.

The Early Years
May 2007As Journey outgrew Lewiston Elementary School, the church transitioned to meeting in the Bobby Waters Gymnasium Complex at Patriots Park. This was an energizing time for the Journey family and a call to the community. God had a plan for a permanent home for Journey in the works that no one saw coming until the following year.

A Permanent Home
Growing Deep and Wide
The PresentJourney continues to be a place where people know God, grow in a relationship with Him, and go and tell the world about Him. Journey continues to fulfill Jesus’ Great Commission found in Matthew 28:19-20 as He tells us, “...Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

The FutureAs Journey’s campus grows, attendance grows, and people’s relationships with Christ grow, there is no doubt that God has placed us in this community for a purpose. We will strive to make Journey Community Church the perfect church for imperfect people, and He will continue to make this a place where life-change happens!
