The NINE/30 is a time for us to corporately commit to seeking God intentionally on behalf of our church and our own personal needs. We challenge everyone in our church to pray and fast for a portion of September. We believe that, as Jeremiah 29:13 promises, those who seek God wholeheartedly will find Him.

This Month

We're walking through a passage from the Psalms every day for the month of September. Set aside some time each day to read the verse for the day, and then go through each of the questions below. You may not be able to answer each question every single day, but these will guide your time this month as you seek God through His Word.

We encourage you to continue building your life on the foundation of Jesus.

How can we seek Him out?

Bible Reading

The Bible is the primary way that God speaks to us. Reading His Word helps us see more of who He is, what He's done, and how we're supposed to live in light of that. As we go through the NINE/30, we commit to dig into His Word.

Maybe you've never really read the Bible before, or maybe you're finding that it's tough to stay consistent. Wherever you find yourself, we want to give you some resources to kickstart your habit of getting into the Word of God, especially for the NINE/30.
Reading Plans
Below you'll find several reading plans (all through YouVersion) of various lengths that you can dive into this month. If you've never read the Bible, or haven't read it consistently, we recommend starting small – God will meet you where you're at and speak to you through whatever plan you choose to start!

Prayer

Prayer is our way of directly communicating with God. Communication happens both ways: we pray in faith that God listens, and He answers (even when we don't feel like He does). We pray because the Bible calls us to do it and because we believe that God listens to His children.

Prayer doesn't always come naturally, even if you've been a Christian for years. But the best way to build a strong personal relationship with God is through prayer. Think about it this way: the God of the universe, who put the stars in the sky, set the earth in motion, and holds all things together, wants to have a relationship with YOU! How amazing is that? Prayer is simply our opportunity to build that relationship with Him over time, one conversation at a time.
Prayer Topics
Here are some ideas to get your prayers started this month.

Your spiritual life:
  • Pray that God will help you to continually walk in love.
  • Pray that God will help you to walk by faith in His Word.
  • Ask God to give you more and more grace.
  • Pray that God will give you compassion for the lost and the unsaved world.
  • Ask God to strengthen your heart and help you to remain faithful when challenges arise.
For the church:
  • Pray for unity in the church.
  • Pray that God would be glorified in all things and that the name of Christ is exalted.
  • Pray that God’s Spirit and power would fill the church.
  • Pray that the body of Christ would faithfully show love to a hurting world in His Name.
  • Pray for God’s provision and that the church would be faithful to give generously.
  • Pray that the church would be faithful to go and share the gospel of Christ.
  • Pray for the leaders of every church, that their hearts and minds are directed towards Christ.

Fasting

Fasting is the voluntary absence of food, drink, or personal privilege for a set amount of time to devote ourselves to God. As we set aside those things, we use that time to pray and seek God for direction, repentance, or favor.

It's honestly less complicated than it sounds. When we fast, we're giving God the time that we would normally put towards other things. If we fast for one meal or one day a week, we take the time that we normally would have been eating and spend it in prayer and/or Bible reading. Or if we're taking the month off social media, in the spare time we have that we would normally log onto Facebook, we might open the Bible app or something else that sets our focus on God.

Fasting Suggestions
The point of fasting is to fully set our attention on God rather than other things, even if they're good things in their proper context. This month we want to take time specifically to seek God in this way because, based on the examples we see in the Bible, He responds when we are serious about seeking Him. Below are some suggestions as you begin your fast this month:
  • Fast a particular food or drink for the whole month
  • Fast from social media for the month
  • Fast from a hobby or activity you enjoy
  • Fast from Netflix
  • Fast one meal per day
  • Fast all meals one day per week
